Are you thinking about moving to Delaware? The Delaware beaches used to be tourist towns, but they are becoming more residential with people moving out of the cities to rural areas like the Eastern Shore. The Delaware Beaches offer low taxes compared to Washington DC, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, so it’s a great place to retire. Each of the beach towns in Delaware is a little different. Here’s what you can expect from each one.

Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth still sees a lot of tourist activity, especially in the summer, with the boardwalk being the biggest draw. This town offers lots of pretty scenery and fun things to do.

Dewey

If you love the nightlife, Dewey is the place to be. Restaurants and local breweries are open for all to enjoy.

Lewes

Lewes is the most walkable of the Delaware beach towns. It offers a historic, quaint vibe with fine shops, restaurants, and museums lining the streets. Cape Henlopen State Park is said to be the prettiest of the Delaware shorefronts.

Bethany Beach

Bethany is a quiet, small town with a boardwalk and a beach. If you are looking for a calm place to call home that’s not too far from the action, Bethany is the place to be.

Fenwick Island

Fenwick is the smallest out of all the beaches, and it’s close to Ocean City. Fenwick is a happy medium between the quiet of Bethany and the vibrancy of Ocean City wrapped up in its own unique charm.

Buying a House in the Delaware Beaches Area

Real estate prices are on the rise and very competitive, especially in the cities. In Delaware, there is no sales tax, no tax on Social Security benefits, and no personal property tax. If you are a first-time homebuyer, you may be able to get a federal income tax credit. These tax advantages, combined with the perks of living in the Delaware beaches area, make buying a house in one of these towns an excellent move whether you are just starting out in life or entering retirement.
